Mantoverde and Mantos Blancos are located in sparsely populated regions of the Atacama Desert, away from major population centers.
During our years of operations, we have built long-term sustainable relationships with nearby communities, contributing to their economic and social development. Our stakeholders include social and territorial organizations, fishermen unions, local and regional authorities, as well as hundreds of local students. Our commitment to these stakeholders is based on the principles of dialogue, collaboration, traceability, excellence and transparency.
During the year ended December 31, 2020, we invested US$1.2 million on social projects near our operations (up 10% from 2019 levels), comprised of: investments in the Delta Program from the Universidad Católica del Norte and Eureka alongside CORFO and Antofagasta Municipality to support low-income and vulnerable youths of the Antofagasta Region; investments to assist several local fishing communities in the Atacama Region through with development projects; and support through local community training to help increase potential employment prospects with Mantos Copper.
