We believe that the health and safety of our employees, respect for the environment, and active engagement with local communities are fundamental to our business. This ethos is codified in our Integrated Policy on Safety, Occupational Health, Environment and Community, which was prepared in May 2018.
Health and safety
The health and safety of our employees and contractors is a key priority and ensures our ongoing social license to operate. We have established an industry-leading safety management system and in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2019, Mantoverde received the top ranked John T Ryan Safety Award for the lowest reportable injury frequency nation-wide in Chile in the previous year. In addition, Mantoverde received in 2019 the top award for safety from the National Geology and Mining Service, a Chilean government agency.
From 2018 to 2020, our average Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate was 0.10 per 200,000 hours worked, compared to the Chile Industry average of 0.31, as reported by the Chilean Mining Ministry. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we successfully implemented systems and procedures to mitigate the impact of the virus on the health of our employees and contractors, and the continuity of our operations. We have worked closely with national health authorities to implement best practices across our operations.
